black metal insignia (start date?)

Hello,  does anyone know what year the all black metal insignia first came into use.    (rank, service, cib, pilot, etc... )

Around 1966-1968 subdued insignia started to come into use. It became mandatory for wear on field uniforms on 01 July 1970. Though, the Army introduced what could be called subdued buttons and metal insignia after the Spanish-American for cotton khaki and olive drab, and wool olive drab uniforms.

thanks ATB.     Aside from the subdued cloth insignia,  are you also referring to the metal insignia for those same dates?
