landon Posted April 26, 2025 #1 Posted April 26, 2025 Hello, when did the navy switch from the msa type masks to the a14?
jerry_k Posted April 28, 2025 #2 Posted April 28, 2025 Ahh many questions from you ;) In 1943, they started using a TYPE D, and near the beginning of 1944 (very late 43) an A-14, sometimes with old TYPE D o2 extension hose and later with standard A-14 "on demand" regulators... Cheers, Jerry
jerry_k Posted April 28, 2025 #4 Posted April 28, 2025 Sure, of course, the early A-14 mask is slightly different from the mid and late war A-14. Straps are a little bit different and hose coupling is different.
landon Posted April 28, 2025 Author #5 Posted April 28, 2025 I knew the straps were a little different but what was different on the hose?
jerry_k Posted April 28, 2025 #6 Posted April 28, 2025 Coupling is different in the early war mask 43/44 and the late 44/45. There is also a different coupling in the early war mask used with TYPE D mask o2 extension hose, but it is a totally different thing and a RARE item. I would not look at it too much... photos courtesy by old "Pilots, Man Your Planes" website by Paul (pararaftanr2) and our FB page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/314929673928961
landon Posted April 28, 2025 Author #8 Posted April 28, 2025 Another mask question, what type of mask microphone did the navy use?
landon Posted April 29, 2025 Author #10 Posted April 29, 2025 I found that section, sorry I may have overlooked it when I first went through.
