Wow, well said, that’s just society nowadays 🤣

I hate to jump in, but being as how I'm in somewhat the same boat, I wanted to throw my four cents (inflation) in.

Long time friend passed away (see my post on Rare Krag Bayonets) and I'm helping his widow sell his collection.  Over 2 plus years his son-in-law (with my help and a couple of other long time friends) has sold about half his collection of 140 (or so) Krags, Trapdoors, other firearms (the M1A1 carbine, M1 Garands, M1917, etc. went fast).  We're down to 65 or so rifles and various militaria.  The desirable stuff goes first, the cheap stuff goes second, and the militaria (civil war to WW2) takes forever.  The rare (and more costly items) will take years to sell, and time marches on for his widow.  We've tried the show route (sold half his stuff at 8-10 shows) and through word-of-mouth, asked some dealers to price the collection (they have been offering 25-30%), thought about auction sites (his widow doesn't want to use RIA), and I've been selling some stuff on line.  I'm right now in the process of inventorying his parts (about 400 plus pounds of parts) to see if we can sell them to any of the companies that sell that type of parts (mostly Krag).  I doubt we'll get much but we're in the "a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush) situation.  What ever it takes to get his stuff sold is the next step, although I'll continue to try to sell some of his more affordable things on line.

In the end, the amount of effort you are willing to put in and the time factor (we aren't getting any younger) will drive you to a solution, but you need to make decisions, not sit around and bemoan your fate.

Best of luck on getting a good value for your grandkids (that is the motivating factor, I would think), and you have actually gotten some good advice here (Mr. Jerry in particular).  Take it.

Please don't bring logic and reason into an internet discussion 😃

You could always sell your crap on ebay..

I dont know how long you have to be a member on the forum to sell your US military crap... ?

but you could always sell your U.S. military crap here..

People here would most likely buy your US military crap.

Good luck selling your crap.

Yup, you put in the effort, and do you think it was worth it? The person in this case put in basically no effort. And if he did (for his grandsons sake) it would likely. Pay off. Also like your cents + inflation lol

As a collector I have no problem with someone else not particularly appreciating these things, wanting to move them on, and being honest about it.  To me this is new items to the market that I might appreciate.  Win / Win.

Good luck finding a new home for it all.

*I think you should list the good stuff in the classifieds here, just set low prices,  :)

I'd be interested in some of that.... Are you on CalGuns by any chance?... Name looks familiar

That’s a fair assessment, it’s fine if he doesn’t appreciate it and calls it carp as to most people Tagt’s hear it is, but he seems to refuse it’s worth anything which is a shame, the guy is missing out on tons of money

His loss I guess, he had all the resources at his fingertips…

It's not that I think it's worthless, it's just I have no idea what is worth.

You can't sell something unless you know what is worth.

I've already sold $40,000 worth of Randalls, Eks, Bucks, and Dave Yellowhorse knives on eBay.

I'm done.

If expediency is a priority find someone to buy the guns and somebody else to buy the rest.

You won’t get top dollar but it will be gone and you’ll be smoking cheap cigars while strolling on Mission Beach or maybe La Jolla.

I say keep selling on eBay, since you've already got a handle on that. You won't get better money from anyone else. This forum also has a for sale section.

Someone had a nice collection, and kept it in the family. My intentions too. I have all my knives with shoe tags attached telling what they are, any rarity involved, the price I paid w/ date, and worth at that time. On occasion I will upgrade to current value. I don't want anyone selling a $1000 knife, for $5 in a yard sale.  SKIP

What would you want someone selling any of your stuff?

I'm just spit balling here, but maybe when you get to a certain age you give it to your kids, or you sell it?

It's just crazy enough to work.

Not one penny of the crap in FOUR STORAGE UNITS goes to me. It's all for my grandkids.

If he cared about his grandkids, he would have left them a shoebox full of silver eagles or Krugerrands.

Better yet, he should have given them this crap when he was alive.
