I just came across this on the net. It is from an earlier sale of a group belonging to Ernest E. Short. Group included a MCGCM with 1st enlistment 1930-1934 and a 2nd enlistment bar, and Yangtze Service MNo 5475. The MCEM is MNo 6656. So if this is authentic, the MCEM was probably fist issued for Haiti or he was on Panay in 1937. The bar looks like it may be from  an unofficial strike because of the narrow bar on the reverse

but I'll leave it to you experts to chime in.

Looks Good - It seems to have been issued around August 1937 according to the USMF Marine Corps Expeditionary Thread.

You chimed in too quickly, Bill. I was adding a reverse to the post. The obverse certainly looks good, but I have never seen a reverse of the bar before and the back strap looks a little narrow.

I'm not a fan of the Wake Island bar.

Upon a closer look I would have to agree that the bar (knots) don't link good either.

Glad I did not buy it!!

If I remember correctly, the Short group also had a loose, original WAKE bar as well.

I think the bar on the medal attributed to Short is authentic.  All the details of the lettering match exactly other known original bars. I'm don't have a problem with the narrow back strap.

Very similar to this example that was posted. They appear to have the same backing bar. I would buy it, but I don't consider myself an expert.
