WW2UsCollector Posted March 12 #1 Posted March 12 Here's my newest acquisition. This grouping belonged to Pvt. Arthur Ray Looker of Company B, 308th Infantry Regiment, 77th Infantry Division. Arthur was a member of the Lost Battalion. Arthur joined the 308th in Late September 1918. During the event, Arthur served as a runner for Major Charles W. Whittlesey. At some point during the event (likely on October 5th, 1918), Arthur was engaged in hand to hand combat with the Germans, and he recieved a German rifle butt to his head which knocked him unconscious and knocked out a few of his teeth. Arthur would survive the event, but he suffered neurological damage from being hit in the head. This caused him to suffer from a severe bout of Amnesia, and it took him 10 months to fully recover. After his recovery, Arthur went on a tour all around Wisconsin sharing his story with the Lost Battalion.
Brian Dentino Posted March 12 #3 Posted March 12 Wow, not often you see items like this come to light and this one is super. Thanks for sharing it with us. Quite the amazing story this whole unit went through and unique in the "modern era" for sure!
bertmedals Posted March 12 #4 Posted March 12 Fantastic group. Not something you see every day. Thanks for posting the pictures and the story.
Mr.Jerry Posted March 13 #7 Posted March 13 Awesome group! One of my friends, Rob Laplander, wrote the book on the Lost Battalion and was partly responsible for getting that monument installed.
