"Robert G. Wilson, Lieutenant, born July 16, 1917, Nappanee, IN; graduated Northwestern University, BME. After four years in business he entered the USNR in May 1943. Schools attended included Indoctrination; Communications, Harvard; Subchaser Training School, Miami; then orders to the USS West Virginia at Bremerton, WA, in May 1944. Memorable experiences were of the Battle of Surigao Strait, Leyte Gulf, Lingayen Gulf, Iwo Jima, Okinawa, Ie Shima and Mindoro. He served as a signal officer until Dec. 22, 1945; was discharged as lieutenant on March 26, 1946, and stayed in the USNR until August 1951. Now retired after 41 years in business. He married in 1939 and they celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in October 1989. He has three children and four grandchildren. His daughter married a career Navy man and one son served four years on the USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63). Hobbies include photography, lapidary, gardening, travel, music and water color painting."
