Variations in one pilot's wings

I am having difficulty determining the difference between two sets of wings in the memorabilia from one pilot, and I hope someone(s) can provide resource pointers.

I've attached his ID badge image.  His discharge documents the following service:

I recognize one set of wings to be the standard issue for World War II.  The other set, however, have USOA on them.  Information I found on-line with my limited knowledge indicates the USOA style was not in use until the 1950's.

My question is whether these were issued to him, or if he just acquired them personally after his discharge.

The pilot wings were probably issued to him during WWII. The USOA (United States Overseas Airlines) was founded after the war and is a civilian airlines (although they likely had military contracts).  That is probably from the 50'sor 60's after he was discharged

Neat wings.

Thank you!  That makes sense, because he continued flying after he was discharged.  (I have something in his papers with a civilian airline name on it.)
We have a lot to wade through -- thankfully, he was organized.
