Deckie85 Posted February 25, 2025 #1 Posted February 25, 2025 I’ve always found the Staff Sergeant T/3 (Technician 3rd Grade) chevrons easy enough to find on their own, but seldom see them mentioned on veteran headstones or in wartime photographs. Was this rank uncommon during the war or the history of the technician grades? I feel like T/5 and T/4 are everywhere unlike T/3. In one reenactment group years ago a person was wearing the chevrons on an M1941 jacket and someone remarked briefly how that specific rank was not a common sight but didn’t catch any details.
JohnK83882 Posted February 25, 2025 #2 Posted February 25, 2025 You might not see a tech rank too commonly at the front. I'm assuming the reenactors were doing front lines and not radio shack.
Deckie85 Posted February 25, 2025 Author #3 Posted February 25, 2025 He wasn’t wearing combat gear but for all I know he was on a break/still dressing out. Like I said I see the other two tech grades everywhere in wartime photos but T/3 seems elusive — wasn’t sure if it was seldom utilized or like the “existent but not used” Spec 8/9 ranks of its day.
patches Posted March 26, 2025 #4 Posted March 26, 2025 It was indeed an uncommon rank. They were found in non combat arms units mostly. See the Postings here for more details on Technicians to include Tech 3.
