dirtbikemike312 Posted February 12, 2025 #1 Posted February 12, 2025 Hello all, this is my great great grandfather, in the United States Merchant Marines after the First World War. I find it interesting that he has two overseas stripes. Could they apply for the victory medal once it was finally produced? also it looks like the jumper doesnt have any strpies on the cuffs, but they also could just be covered up by his arms. This was a very cool find!
DD937 Posted February 13, 2025 #2 Posted February 13, 2025 Interesting that he was in the Merchant Marine which usually is the USSB United States Shipping Board and their uniforms only had two rows of pipping and even the non rated men wore the USSB insignia on the left arm. Are you sure he wasn't in the Navy and assigned to a transport ship. Sounds like a very interesting research project.

So, as far as I know he was in the merchant marines from 1918-1919, in the U.S. Navy from 1919-1921, and went back into the merchant marines from 1942-1944. I’d like to put a uniform together in his memory, but seeing how he served in multiple wars and branches, I find it difficult on how to go about it
