Flight Deck Crewman's Helmet - Impact Resistant

Does anyone know what the helmet is made of? (I am especially trying to figure out what the black "foam?" is made of)

It is referred to as a Cranial, there should be specs on it somewhere in the system.

When I wore them, they were plastic. Attached to a cloth cranial helmet. I actually cracked one, bouncing off the deck.

Black foam with a black cloth covering. 
 

Both plastic plates on your helmet are mounted upside down.
