Very nice. The PO2 buckle is post 1973. About that time, the Navy shifted E-6 and below from brass to pewter, (Silver). The Sperry buckle, originally had a separate piece that was attached to the buckle that was a silhouette of a Fletcher Class DD. These fell off routinely. Everyone I had when I was in, lost the ship. But, one ship I was on, guys would take their buckle to the machine shop, and pop the ship off and have it welded back on , like it was sinking, broken in half, capsized, Sailor humor.

I'll update my ebay listing on the PO2 buckle. Thanks.

Is the Sperry buckle a modified issue item or strictly a consumer purchase item the navy tolerated?

Both are consumer purchase. Ships buckles were sold in the ships store. The PO buckles were sold in the exchange

Thanks. You were right about the ship stuck on those. Here's one from ebay.

My first 2 ships had this type of buckle the ships fell off pretty quickly. They probably got hung up on something my other ships had engraved and painted “Zippo” buckles. Preferred them.
