I was researching this button I found metal detecting a week or so ago and came across this site. I joined in hopes to get some more info on it. A friend of mine sent me a picture of a similar one from around 1821 but it had 13 stars. I can’t seem to find an exact match online. The button I found has 15 stars and the rope extends far out from the anchor. The back is stamped “TREBLE GILT * ORANGE*”. I would like to get it correctly labeled for a shadow box. Any info about this button is greatly appreciated. TIAIMG_7385.jpeg.ad07b294374c6e9b54901758b03eb960.jpeg

Nice button, thanks for posting.

Warren K. Tice's book Uniform Buttons of the United States, 1776-1865 lists this button as MC115A, made in England during the 1820s. He does not list your specific maker mark, however, a similar mark is listed for a similar 1820s button with 13 stars (MC109A.2).

Would love to add something like that to my collection someday!  If you ever decide to part with it, let me know!  I'm also looking for the large "US" Marine Corps button

Thank you. Not much info on these buttons. So far I learned that in 1817 there were 14 officers and 652 enlisted, the designer’s name is Peasley who was an American counterfeiter (a really good die-sinker) that was pardoned and that the design was sent to several button companies to be produced which is why there are different backmarks. I haven’t yet found how scarce they are or what kind of value they have not that I’m planning to part with it.
