gunbb Posted January 22, 2025 #1 Posted January 22, 2025 I have these 2 medals, each different from the other. The one with a ribbon I picked up in a cigar box full of medals from a guy who got this medal, WW1 and WW2 medals . It's numbered, 2564 . The other I can't remember where I found it. Probably some show where the person had no idea what it was. It's also numbered ,"No 8369 " . So is one a reissue or what gives ? Thanks .
USMCR79 Posted January 22, 2025 #2 Posted January 22, 2025 Mexican Border 2564 issued to 1st Lt. Edmund J. Randall - Philadelphia PA Mexico Service No. 8369 issued to PFC Bernard W. Rodgers Company "G" 5th Cav. If you go to this site you can find their medal issue records: https://catalog.archives.gov/search-within/601682 Bill
gunbb Posted January 22, 2025 Author #3 Posted January 22, 2025 Thanks. But why the difference in medal style and layout ? Also I tried that link and couldn't find Randall.
USMCR79 Posted January 22, 2025 #4 Posted January 22, 2025 Typically the Regular Army received the Mexico Service Campaign Medal because it covers 1911-20 The National Guard Units that were federalized in 1916 received the Mexican Border Campaign Medal. Found Randall with no problem.

I now know and will put them side by side in my US Medal collection. I would like to have a piece of the ribbon and a ribbon bar for the 1911-20 medal. There's one on the net for $1.50 but shipped it's like $13 !! I'd rather give the money to any of you who have a spare piece of ribbon and a bar.

McChizzle Posted August 18, 2025 #10 Posted August 18, 2025 Looks like the DoD is establishing a new Mexican Border Defense Medal. Note they are calling it the "...Defense Medal" vs the "...Service Medal." - https://www.reddit.com/r/army/comments/1mrcwk2/mexican_border_defense_medal_just_dropped/ - https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1G2TDZ4ZV1/ - https://www.instagram.com/p/DNeCx0eRlfM/
