muddyboots Posted January 18, 2025 #1 Posted January 18, 2025 I seen this while roaming the web and had to have it. I’m assuming it’s either early WW2 or the 30’s. I glanced around the forum for some comparisons with no luck. I did see some by Pancraft and a few other makers but not Meyer which I thought was strange because with any other branches or service there are plenty of items made by them. Some feedback on this device would be greatly appreciated.
KurtA Posted January 18, 2025 #2 Posted January 18, 2025 With the direction of the eagle facing the viewer's left, it must be post 1941. Pretty much the same design as currently worn, but with the hallmarks it has, I would say probably 1940's. However, if WW2, I would expect it to be marked sterling (sterling was typically used in the war years to conserve critical metals such as brass, pot metal, etc). Is there a "sterling" marking anywhere in all that tarnish? I buy these whenever I see a variation I don't have and if they are reasonably priced (almost always overpriced, as antique dealers think they're worth a fortune usually being sterling and all). But, I must say I can't recall seeing a Meyer Metal example before. I don't think that translate to much increased value, but I think it's a really nice variation.
muddyboots Posted January 18, 2025 Author #3 Posted January 18, 2025 I’m not seeing any hints of a Sterling mark. I know I have seen Meyer Metal CPO pins that were all brass. Is there a time frame that Meyer Metal was stopped and they just continued with their shields or shield and N.S. Meyer.
