Sailorjerry45 Posted January 15, 2025 #1 Posted January 15, 2025 Good Evening Gentlemen, I recently came across a uniform that I'm having a little trouble finding specifics on but I do believe I've narrowed it down to someone. A William C. Faulkner, it's guessing it's him due to it being an early model uniform with ghosting of SSGT stripes and holes in the breast that would have accommodated 2 ribbon bars. I found a William Churchill Faulkner who enlisted in 1925 and was sent to Nicaragua and later passed away in San Diego which is where the uniform was sourced from. An interesting feature on this one is that the buttons are held in place with what appears to be a period boot lace. Either way it is a nice early uniform that will clean up very nicely once complete. If anyone has any opinions or further information I would love to hear it! Thank you, USN
Sailorjerry45 Posted January 15, 2025 Author #2 Posted January 15, 2025 Looking through some muster reports of who I believe this uniform belonged to I see reports throughout the years of him being listed as a mess corporal and mess chief (mess sergeant) which would also make sense due to the bottoms of his chevrons being flat. Unfortunately I can hardly find photos of the 1920s/30s mess ranks let alone a set for sale haha.
Sailorjerry45 Posted January 22, 2025 Author #3 Posted January 22, 2025 Would i be correct in assuming that this is also the report of him earning his marksman award in this muster reports while overseas in Nicaragua?
Sailorjerry45 Posted February 9, 2025 Author #4 Posted February 9, 2025 I took some time to dig through the muster reports he's mentioned in prior to ww2. William C. Sailorjerry45 Posted February 20, 2025 Author #5 Posted February 20, 2025 I was able to properly restore the awards, and even got the correct period bars that fit the original holes for the old ribbon bars.
Sailorjerry45 Posted October 3, 2025 Author #6 Posted October 3, 2025 I managed to get a proper set of EGAs for this one. I dont think I'll ever find a loose set of chevrons so this is likely how this one will stay for a while.
warguy Posted October 3, 2025 #7 Posted October 3, 2025 Nice uniform, love the ribbon bar. I actually don't think it would be all that difficult to find the chevrons. Would be worthy of restoration on that point. Thanks for sharing.
Sailorjerry45 Posted October 3, 2025 Author #8 Posted October 3, 2025 Just now, warguy said: Nice uniform, love the ribbon bar. Ive gotten lucky on some rare parts but I dont see too many mess corporal or mess sergeants chevrons floating around unfortunately.
