Adam88 Posted January 10 #1 Posted January 10 I'm a newbie when it comes to US equipment. Was thinking maybe you guys could help. I just picked this guy up for $40. I have two questions; Has anyone seen this weird label on the front? Was debating taking it off but don't want to disturb the history if it's significant. I think it's a McCord? The heat stamp is M-140A. Can I got a date from that? I'm assuming it's 70s or 80s based on the label saying 1971. Either way I think it's pretty cool. :) Thanks for any advice in advance, friends!
atb Posted January 10 #2 Posted January 10 I think that was put on when it was sold by the government as surplus to the public. "DRMS" is Defense Reutilization and Marketing Service of the Defence Logistics Agency.

I have it for a display and I dont know if I should remove it.
Pepper Posted January 13 #4 Posted January 13 Lot and lift number indicate it was made in the 1950s by McCord. Paint in the photos looks like the helmet made it into the 70 or 80s before it was sold to the civilian market. The label is common for these. My knee jerk assumption has always been that there was a legal issue regarding avoiding government responsibility for someone choosing to use one of these as a motorcycle helmet. The only basis I have for this is the late 60s to the mid70s was when all the laws regarding motorcycle helmets were passed.

Oh okay, thanks for the info. I wanted to be SURE before I removed it. Any way I can tell the date via the heat stamp? Cant find one like it online. Kinda new to M1 helmets.
