I recently acquired this Vietnam era joke tag marked "Confed. Army." I have a feeling, however, that the ASN is probably legitimate. Is there any way to determine the man's name from just this number? Long shot, I know.

Sorry I can't help with the serial number.  But neat tag regardless!  I was in charge of making tags for my Marines at one time.  I would make 'fake joke tags' and slip them on my Marines' dog tags.  I once made one where I substituted a line with a derogatory cuss word.  It went unnoticed until the Marine was inspected by the Commanding Officer and asked to see his tags.  Let's just say it didn't go over well.  Of course I was suspected, but since tags can be bought out in town, I got away with it...
