As a new collector, I am deathly afraid of fakes. I feel I am getting a fairly good handle on most items through research and actually seeing real items (I hope). But I wanted to ask about good reference books. I came across a list posted back in 07 and gleaned some good ones to pick up. But my go to ones were not listed because they were published at that time or shortly thereafter. So if you have your go to please post if I did not list it. Also is there a good button ID board or something to group them and root our repros?

Doug McChristianson - (love this set) The US Army in the West 1870-1880 (1995) and 2 vol set The US Army on the Western Frontier 1880-1893 (2007)

Jerome Green  - US Army Uniforms and Equipment 1889 (1986) Republished QUartermaster book describing each item at that time

John Langellier - Army Blue 1848-1873 AND More Army Blue 1874-1887

Stephen Dorsey - Indian War Cartridge pouches, boxes and carbine boots AND American military and naval belts, 1812-1902

Lee Rutledge - (Another HUGE favorite) Campaign Clothing: Field Uniforms of the Indian War Army 1866-1871 AND Campaign Clothing: Field Uniforms of the Indian War Army 1872-1886

And since I am interested in trapdoors I would be remiss not to mention these:

Dick Hosmer (Excellent) The .58- and .50 Caliber Rifles and Carbines of the Springfield Armory, 1865-1872 AND More .45-70 Springfields, 1873-1893: The Uncommon, the Scarce & the Rare

Joe Poyer and Craig Riesch - The .45-70 Springfield

Al Frasca and Robert Hill - The .45-70 Springfield AND Vol 2 The 45-70

Great looking collection and excellent reference library in my opinion. I'd have to go through my stack to add to your list. Interested in more pics of your early Allin conversion and the .58 cartridge box. Is the box a post-war conversion? Good looking gear!

Thanks. Please add to the list. You got a good eye. The 1865 was my holy grail. The cartridge box is not post war conversion, it has the tins. IMG_8409.jpg.7c762d2eb609f4a6f271b5d27b69e4ce.jpgIMG_8408.jpg.62f342879cae9d0772ceba18c94604f3.jpgIMG_8407.jpg.e07ff69d30518108247f91559c872c51.jpg
