Cloth Collar disc, Real or not

I purchased this cloth Engineer collar on Ebay and I'm trying find out if this was worn in place of the metal disc.  I have yet to find any information on it and any information is requested.  And, yes, the metal disc is upside down.  Thanks.

Reminds me of the disks you see on CBI bush jackets.  But it looks US-made.

I have two variants of Quartermaster Corps discs like this one. The first is very rough looking and is definitely theater-made (Indian perhaps?). The other is sharper like your example. I've never seen any of them sewn on uniforms though. The closest I have is a button-down shirt with a CBI patch and direct-embroidered insignia sewn into the collar. It even has a thread circle around the insignia to mimic an actual collar disc. I found it at a Show of Shows a few years back.
