militaria360 Posted December 30, 2024 #1 Posted December 30, 2024 I've got a set of coveralls, (fire retardant) 8405-01-105-6143, that I picked up somewhere. The name is so generic that I'm having trouble finding any info on them. And I looked up the number and got zero results, I'm guessing they're Navy because they say to wash with Navy formula II? I did see COVERALLS FIRE RETARDANT TYPE 1 but not these. I don't know much about Navy stuff, can any of you tell me anything about these? Thanks.
Father V Posted December 31, 2024 #2 Posted December 31, 2024 @sigsaye will probably have something to say. For now I can say from the contract number that it was made in 1985. Also that Aramid is best known from its brand name, Kevlar https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aramid

Also that Aramid is best known from its brand name, Kevlar https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aramid I will start that I was never a fan of coveralls. They never fit me comfortably and I only wore them when I was doing really dirty work. I only recall blue sets, and the OLD, OD green, heavy cotton ones from the 1960/70s. I seem to recall LCAC crew wearing some thing in this color, but didn’t pay that much attention to them, assuming they were flight suits. Could have been these.
PatLaabs Posted December 31, 2024 #4 Posted December 31, 2024 I would agree that they're navy issue. These look exactly like the ones that some navy aviation squadron guys get issued to do maintainance on aircraft. I had a roommate in Norfolk who was an Aviation Structural Mechanic. He would wear this exact type of coverall and even gave me a brand new set for free. I'd Share a picture but I honestly couldn't tell you where they are. It would've also have been made probably in the early to mid 2010s since he gave it to me in 2016. Still was the same patter as these with a very similar tag.

The ones the LCAC co guys wore were always patched up. They wore flight boots and flight helmets. So, I always guessed they were wearing flight suits. Never paid that much attention. They only wore the suits when operating the craft. The rest of the time, they were wearing khakis ( in the Chiefs mess, sleeping). They were just passengers, so just in the way 🤣👍🏻⚓️
