1917? Ww1 doughboy helmet with unique markings

Found this at a local estate  auction

 

very nice example with some interesting markings on it 

was wondering if anyone knew what D.A.L stands for

Just guessing but Delaware American Legion Commanding Officer? During their conventions, they'd have these ridiculously long processions into the convention city with their WW1 troop trucks and march down the street. Honestly, the parade would last 36 hours. This helmet may be part of that.
