doinworkinvans Posted December 16, 2024 #1 Posted December 16, 2024 I’ve had a topic like this before, but would love to see ideas on displaying paper work, letters, commendations, photos, etc have a great week
Fiziwater Posted December 16, 2024 #2 Posted December 16, 2024 Displaying paper is a challenge when space is tight, which is usually the case. On shelving, I have to resort to a lot of overlapping and turning pieces to try to show a key part of something underneath. If it’s a poster or newspaper, and there’s available wall space, that helps. For smaller pieces, wall space can be the answer, but the way they’re mounted will enhance or detract, so consideration needs to be given to how best to do that.
doinworkinvans Posted December 18, 2024 Author #3 Posted December 18, 2024 I like that - thanks sir! That corner style cabinet is a good idea
collectsmedals Posted December 19, 2024 #4 Posted December 19, 2024 I have a metal rack with removable inserts that hold clear plastic sleeves that I slide the documents into. You can see how they work in the last photo. BTW: The photo in the Millcreek Service Star newspaper is my Dad getting his Silver Star from General Mark Clark.
doinworkinvans Posted December 20, 2024 Author #5 Posted December 20, 2024 Ahhhh very nice! Thank you!
MinorInHistory Posted December 20, 2024 #6 Posted December 20, 2024 I really like doing collages in frames, though I also store in binders. I've also found baseball card holders are really good way to display photos, and I prop them up in my cases where relevant. Below is my Vietnam Army collage, Vietnam film photography collage (which was in a small display case), and the in-progress ETO riker with baseball card holders. I'm really into collecting military photos and photo-ephemera, so I'm always looking for cool ways to display them too.
JohnK83882 Posted December 20, 2024 #7 Posted December 20, 2024 Ephemera doesn't get enough love and the military loves putting out pamphlets and flyers. It's a rare veterans stash that doesn't have a neat stack of the stuff.
JohnK83882 Posted December 20, 2024 #8 Posted December 20, 2024 We had at least one photo enthusiast in the family during the war so lots of home darkroom produced photos.
