ceg294 Posted December 15, 2024 #1 Posted December 15, 2024 In the early 1950's my dad was an Air Policeman assigned to the 3080th APS, Caribou AFS, Maine. Here's their patch. Note that I got the patch from Jack at https://www.ljmilitaria.com/ in 2013. 3080th APS.pdf
Randy Posted December 16, 2024 #3 Posted December 16, 2024 Here's a variation. Notice no white area, just twill, under the tab. No red eyes. Not an error, they were made this way. Probably a tad older than yours. Randy
ceg294 Posted December 16, 2024 Author #4 Posted December 16, 2024 Interesting variation—not seen this one. I got the patch for my dad and wasn’t really concerned if it was original or not, just thought he’d get a kick out of it. After I sent it to him, I started to do a little research on the patch. If you go to https://usafpatches.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pid=29271 you’ll see the patch as I posted. Same at https://usafunithistory.com/PDF/3000/3080 AIR POLICE SQ.pdf Not surprised by your patch though and wonder how many variations there actually were/are. In the transition from the Army to the Air Force I have read that it was the wild west in uniform variations. My dad’s 1951 USAF Basic Training graduation certificate show him both as a Private and Basic Airman--must have been interesting times. Thanks for sharing. Chuck
Randy Posted December 16, 2024 #5 Posted December 16, 2024 Yours looks good too. You can see them both next to each other here: http://usmilitarypatches.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=115 Variations could (and did) occur with each successive order. Indeed those days were crazy, things changed daily. Randy
