2Pits Posted December 7, 2024 #1 Posted December 7, 2024 Hello all, I was going through some stuff i have had in a box for about 45 years and came across this holster and a few other things, (pouches, belts, lanyards, etc.) I have done some internet sleuthing but have found little. I did find a topic here with another of these as well as a listing on a site for one that was posted for $3,500 that was marked down to $1,200 and the listing is marked sold. That one has me stumped as well as it shows 2 different stampings where year and manufacturer should be. I did not post a link but anyone interested should be able to find it easily if they search for things before '98. I don't need to sell it and probably wont until I look through the other stuff and try to remember where it all came from. My apologies for the long post, but any thoughts on condition and value are appreciated. I know the green verdigris is bad but don't know if value would change if I carefully remove it with cotton swabs and toothpics.
iron bender Posted December 7, 2024 #2 Posted December 7, 2024 Looks like a NOS Boyt 41 holster. I don't know, but at that price either it's a rare make year combo, or a misprint. Maybe $350 down to $120? Again, I'm not in the know on why a 1911 holster would be that expensive. I don't think rare early pieces fetch that much $. Overall you have a very nice 1911 holster.
2Pits Posted December 7, 2024 Author #3 Posted December 7, 2024 I also thought that was a bit nuts but found several posts on here about the BoyT 1916 holsters and the 41 does appear to be a bit rare. I did contact a couple vendors and was given a cash $500 offer for it, which made me curious because they would never offer full value because to be a business they have to make a profit, i understand that but can clean the green and put it in a climate controlled space with a notnfor my kids to check value when I die. This poses other issues for me as it woukd be unappreciated for hopefully decades longer. I did find this here on the forum from 2016. https://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/259085-question-on-m1916-holster-makers-list/
iron bender Posted December 7, 2024 #4 Posted December 7, 2024 Interesting. Obviously a scarce holster. And in choice condition. I know there's some other 41 dated gear that's hard to locate. Canteens or canteen cups maybe?
everforward Posted December 7, 2024 #5 Posted December 7, 2024 It’s in great shape and uncommon as it’s the first year of getting back into production, essentially in a peacetime footing……hard to upgrade from this.
usmcdoc67 Posted December 10, 2024 #6 Posted December 10, 2024 Really nice holster and the '41's are hard to find. Was at a show Saturday and a guy had a nice '42 BoyT and was asking $1k for it. Go figure!!
2Pits Posted December 10, 2024 Author #7 Posted December 10, 2024 Wow, and thank you. From what I have learned $1K for a 42 is a bit much.
Rhscott Posted December 11, 2024 #8 Posted December 11, 2024 Leave it and a note for the kids once you pass? Hell every day kids pay people to haul collections out and dispose of it. They don’t care; only you do.
Arisaka99 Posted December 15, 2024 #9 Posted December 15, 2024 The rarest year/maker code for a WWII M1916 holster. In that condition you are a grand or more. Mine looks like someone sat it on a hot camp stove burner (burn lines) but you just don’t find them. Very few comparables on the web and yours was clearly unissued. Just a wow!!
2Pits Posted December 15, 2024 Author #10 Posted December 15, 2024 Hey Arisaka, Thank you much for your reply. I believe when I was searching I found your posting about the 41's and that is part of what got me started in my current set of inquiries. I am not attached so am willing to sell but don't know what the best place to list it would be. If nothing else pops when I have 30 posts I may put it up here. I would prefer someone who can appreciate it end up with it rather than storing it away again.
