Connor Bills Posted December 1, 2024 #1 Posted December 1, 2024 Recently got this USN .38. It’s exactly the way I like my guns. Enough wear to tell a story, but good enough to function well. It’s the first I’ve seen in person that’s dual marked.
iron bender Posted December 1, 2024 #2 Posted December 1, 2024 Great pistols between this and the Commando.
Charlie Flick Posted December 2, 2024 #4 Posted December 2, 2024 A nice looking Navy Victory. From the Victory Model Database it appears that your example likely shipped from the factory in the September-October, 1942 time frame. Regards, Charlie
Connor Bills Posted December 2, 2024 Author #5 Posted December 2, 2024 Wow that’s even cooler! I figured it was a 1943 gun. I’m pretty excited about it. It’s my 3rd victory model.
silverplate Posted December 20, 2024 #6 Posted December 20, 2024 Great looking pistol. I searched for my Navy example for quite a while. The dual markings are great, first time I've seen that. Congrats.
ScottN Posted June 17, 2025 #7 Posted June 17, 2025 Hey, super nice "Red Letter" Victory! Mine was one of the first U.S. militaries I obtained way back in '80! #V103 thousand range. I wonder how many pieces received the RED LETTERS...and why? Yours looks a wee bit cleaner than mine. Nice find!
Connor Bills Posted June 17, 2025 Author #8 Posted June 17, 2025 I think the red letters were to help prevent theft. They made them more obvious as to what branch it belonged to. That’s what i think, but im not sure.
Gear Fanatic Posted June 17, 2025 #9 Posted June 17, 2025 Man I’ve always loved those those. A fried Of mine up in SF has a really nice early red letter victory like that. I believe it’s an even lower serial number. He traced it back to being issued to a specific ship (which of course I can’t remember). These are great firearms, how to own one one day…
Connor Bills Posted June 17, 2025 Author #10 Posted June 17, 2025 These and the commandos are my favorite .38s. Luckily they’re plentiful! Well, maybe not the commandos so much….
