HANDCARVED SOLIDER PORTRAIT PHOTO UNUSUAL

This is what I was told by the fellow I bought this from. He bought it from the Soldier's family at a yard sale. He was told the Soldier was killed in action and his parents had this made as a rememberance of him. I have never seen one like this before. Of course he did not ask for the Soldiers name from the family . Too bad now the history of the item is lost. I still had to own this is unique photo . Have any of you seen ones like this before?
