prmccoy Posted December 30, 2024 #7 Posted December 30, 2024 Headstone Application says he was 1LT 71st Reg of the 44th Div. The man whose headstone that is, is the soldier you're looking to ID. ID matches the tag. The first companies of the 71st Infantry Regiment entered combat in October 1944, relieving the 79th Division's 315th Infantry Regiment. The 71st participated in the liberation of concentration camps, including Gunskirchen Lager in Austria. They also cut the Berlin-Munich highway and captured Mannheim with the 44th Division.
