Ran across an interesting picture today, of a Col. Wiercinski serving in Afghanistan in 2002, sporting a Vietnam era M1956 pouch. He joined the Army in 1979, well into the ALICE era, so I'm guessing this was a private purchase. Always neat to see this sort of stuff, and wanted to share with y'all.

Also looks like he has an equally faded M56 canteen pouch as well.

Dont go by years as to web gear. I saw M56 pouches used until MOLLE became standard.

 

Hell in 1984 I was a M60 machinegunner and issued a Mills Khaki .45 pouch brand spanking new with Nov 1918 stamped inside and a russet Boyt .45 holster

That LBV set was the worse ever.  At least those have mesh backings rather than the solid ones.
