Newbie here. Hoping for some confirmation on this...I am in the middle of compiling my deceased dad's WW2 military (Navy) history and medals into a keepsake to pass on to my kids who have never met the man. In my research, I came across the Amphibious Forces Patch online. I do not have his jumper, but according to what I have read, he should have been wearing this. According to info on the National Archives site and others, it was issued for those who went through amphibious training school or participated in D-Day or other major landings like Okinawa. From the separation papers I have, I know my dad had 3 levels of training -- ATB in VA, ATB at Fort Pierce and PhibTraBase in VA; participated in Normandy on LST 47 and later the landings on Okinawa on the USS Achernar (AKA53). The Navy has sent me medals he was entitled to but there was no mention of this (presumably because their list only covers medals and not patches...?). Can anyone share their thoughts on whether I am correct that he would have had this patch? Many thanks in advance.

The quick answer is yes. When he was in, would determine which one he wore, but almost universally, the red “Tombstone” patch would have been the one. There is a thread in this section as to how, it would be worn on the uniform, depending on what his job was.
