Hello

I picked up a lip Microphone Navy type CW-51071  Contract #73817--New in  the box.  Anyone know the contract Date?  Also were these used by pilots late in the War?  Other uses?

Thank you

Hi.

Your mic is contracted for Navy Radio division  nxsR under a specification: CW-51071 BUT the same mic was used by Aviator as well under a spec: M-5UR.

Technically both mics are the same, CW-51071 has only (I don't have idea why) a rubber cover around the plug. Yes, this type of lip mic. was used by aviators in late war, especially by Night Fighter.

I wonder if those red filtered goggles are for reading maps in lights out conditions with the pen light that has a red filter on it ...

The red filtered goggles were dark adaptation goggles designed to protect the night vision of pilots and crew getting ready to fly at night.
