Marcum Posted November 1, 2024 #1 Posted November 1, 2024 This is my updated vietnam war usmc 1968 hue city impression. Let me know if i can improve upon things
Allan H. Posted November 1, 2024 #2 Posted November 1, 2024 One of the things that has always struck me about the Marines is the fact that they all seemed to be wearing parachute helmet liners. I have attached a photo of a marine taken during the battle. You will note that he wears a flak vest with plates and M1956 field gear. You also don't see camo bands on their helmets. Moving on to the green rain jacket. I think you would be rather hard pressed to see one of those being worn. They are hot as hell and when you combine them with movement and hot climates, they are MISERABLE to wear. One thing you will note about the rain parka is that if you get one that is sized in line with your regular uniform, you will note that they are HUGE. This is because if you are wanting to stay dry, you put them on OVER all of the other gear. That will keep water from pooling up under the LBE and it will keep your ammo and everything else relatively dry. Just remember that you will sweat a ton while wearing the parka in warm climates which, in turn, makes everything under it a wet, sweaty mess. The rain parka was great in Germany where the weather was already cool. Add a field jacket liner and you were in heaven out in the field. Guys would have the liners sewn into the parkas or have poncho liners tailored to line those jackets. They were called "Baumholder jackets" and other similar terms. Note the marine in the photo is carrying his grenades in the pocket of his jungle jacket and is wearing two bandoleers of extra ammo. Add a web rifle sling and I think you will be much happier with your impression. Allan N
Gear Fanatic Posted November 1, 2024 #3 Posted November 1, 2024 You could stand to be a bit dirty! All your stuff looks great, but it doesn’t looked used, it looks brand new, like the picture above, his helmet is stained and sun bleached as well as his gear is all dirty and used, otherwise looks great, you have great attention to detail, keep it up 👍 Gear fan

Most of the gear i used was salty and my flak is too. I dont really want to weather my gear/uniform yet as i only have one pair of jungles boots and uniform
Gear Fanatic Posted November 1, 2024 #5 Posted November 1, 2024 Yah, I wasn’t sure if it was original or not, of course don’t ruin something, it could’ve been the lighting to, I think it looks great 👍 Gear fan

Allan N There are many photos from Hue city with marines in rain coats it is quite iconic for that battle atleast amongst re-enactors. Not only did they have a rubberized raincoat but even trousers too.
