TrevorR Posted October 22, 2024 #1 Posted October 22, 2024 There was a slight struggle doing research on this one due to the fact there are two George Baumans' that served in the 28th ID during the war. One with the 109th Infantry and the other in the 110th Infantry. Pvt. George Bauman was born 8 December 1897 in Pennsylvania. Prior to enlisting the PA NG he was a clerk. George Enlisted on 10 September 1917 and was assigned to Co. D, 3rd Infantry PA NG. When federalized the 3rd became the 110th Infantry Regiment. Pvt. George went over seas on 3 May 1918 and would land in France. Great Battle on the Ourcq The 6th and final attack on Hill 212 began at 1430 hours with sweeping artillery that would demolish the woods. A long line of infantry would follow behind the artillery. First Battalion Major Thompson would direst on company to attack the front Grimpetts woods due north. Co. A moved first with CO. B, C, D close behind. On the night of 30 July the regiment was relieved and Marched to the woods southwest of Le Charmel, where is re-organized for the next Operations. It was during the battle Pvt. Bauman was wounded in action and missing. I am not sure when he returned to his unit or the nature of his injuries. Jump to September 6, teh first Battalion advanced and around 1300 hours 2nd Battalion advance behind. During this time Pvt. Bauman was wounded again and missing. Again, it is not know when he returned to the unit or the nature of his injuries. Other items in the group belong to his son that was in the Navy during WWII. I have yet to complete h on him.
