Hi,

This is a Mine Safety Appliance made A-13A oxygen mask.

The A-13 mask was the first American pressure demand aviation mask produced in America, being developed in about late 1944. The A-13 mask was slightly modified and standardised as the A-13A which the Navy and Air Force used in the late 40s and early 50s until the A-13A (with a few minor changes again) became standardised as the MS22001 oxygen mask. The US Navy continued to use the original A-13A through the late 50s, later going to the MS22001 also.

This is a MS22001, it’s written on the mic bulb on the front. 😉

When is a 22001 an A-13a or a MBU-3/p

I recently sold a a MBU-3/p, marked near the chin… the 3/p label was added by life support/ depot? the body was also marked in the factory mold as a 22001..it had straight bayonets to attach to helmet

Even more curious is why it's assumed to be an A-13?

Clearly marked MBU-3p by Sierra.

What components on this mask would change the designation from MBU-3 to A-13?

The MS (Military Standard) - 22001 designation came in March 1951, the MBU-3/P in March 1958.
