The marines did not have "tank destroyers" in WW II. This vehicle depicted is a half-track w/ .75mm gun in the "box". The Army called them M-3's; the troops called them "purple heart boxes".

The Marines did have "Special Weapons Plts" and it is believed that the Marines assigned to these units wore this insignia. The source is an article published in the Oct-Dec 1998 Trading Post - "Tank Destroyer Forces and Their Insignia 1941-45". There are 30 color photos in the researched and documented article, a ton of illustrations (including some "Fantasy" TD patches) and back issues are still available.

Kurt is correct in opinion as to this being a reproduction - most likely, Pakistani. The originals are a very flat (or thin) bevo style, woven, not embroidered. A color photo of an original patch is depicted in the article.

I am sorry but have to agree with Alan and Dave that the patch is a repro and has only been seen as an Australian made woven bevo style patchand are very rare in the true sense. Mort
