Simon Trew Posted October 15, 2024 #1 Posted October 15, 2024 This is another 'Bulge' map. It is a 1:25,000-scale GSGS 4041 sheet, title 'Stavelot'. It is the June 1944 edition, reprinted by a British Royal Engineers unit in December 1944. The map shows (lower section) the Stoumont - La Gleize - Bourgoumont area of the Ardennes, where Kampfgruppe Peiper (1st SS Panzer Division) was fought to a standstill and where it abandoned its heavy equipment so that the survivors could exfiltrate on foot. The map is original and I bought it a year or more ago from a French militaria dealer. I do not have any detailed provenance. I hope some people find it interesting.
Persian Gulf Command Posted October 15, 2024 #2 Posted October 15, 2024 Thank you for posting this map! Great original map showing an important area where the 82nd was essential to the stopping of the German advance. I was in La Gleize in 2009. Here is a current signpost as you enter the village. And where I was a bit naughty with my son!
