LtRGFRANK Posted April 3, 2009 Share #1 Posted April 3, 2009 I have a question about an M-2 Ammunition Pouch. The one with pouchs in front and back that slipped over your head and tied at the sides. Mostly used by morter crews. When were they first adapted to have a hook put on one of the shoulder strap to make it easier to put on. Shown on page 206 of "Doughboy to GI" or page 71 of "GI Collectors Guide".
robinb Posted April 4, 2009 Share #2 Posted April 4, 2009 I believe that mod was post WW2, but I have no proof. I falls into the catagory of the plywood packboard with the quick release shoulder strap. That was adopted in 1950 I believe. Many WW2 packboards were so modified. It falls to reason that the M2 ammunition vest would have been changed about that same time frame.
DiGilio Posted April 4, 2009 Share #3 Posted April 4, 2009 I am not sure when they were first made either but my best guess would be 1950s.
