A friend passed about a year ago and I'm helping his widow with his "collectables".

Among them is one of these: https://toppots.net/collections/wwi-american-us-army-uniforms/products/wwi-us-army-reproduction-american-doughboy-m1917-enlisted-brodie-helmet-and-liner-textured-finish

I see what they are selling for "new", Do they actually have any value in the secondary market? He bought this one 20 years ago or so.

I'd like to help the widow get what she can for this, but I'm not sure how much less than retail these might actually trade for.

Interested to hear all of your opinions.

Thanks,

There’s no real value considering there’s so many original unmolested helmets on the market. 75.00 top price in my opinion

If we could see the helmet that might help gauge value. In my opinion I think you could get about $100 give or take. But seeing the actual helmet would help because depending on what condition the liner is, paint etc. could attract more or less value

since this is a ww1 helmet that net does not go with this helmet. so when your trying to sell it, sell the net separately if that is what you decide to do, liner looks good but looks like it was replaced, so that kind stumps me value wise, I'm not completely sure if that would bring in value, for example the reenactor may want something like this. Or if it brings down value as it is not in original shape. I don't want to give you information if I'm not 100% positive. So I think you should wait to see if anyone else chimes in.

Reenactors are about the only folks who would want this. $50 to $75.

Not trying to argue at all, but I am curious why not near the 100 mark?  looks to be a nice original shell that has been nicely restored, has interest gone down in these? or is that how it has always been and i'm just delusional. thanks I'm glad a more experienced person can help. we're all here to learn in the end!

In all honesty its worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it.

I collect WW1 and WW2 US helmets. As a collector, I would never buy something like this "Restored Helmet"

Just my opinion but restored helmets, to me as a collector, have zero value.

Someone, like Scott said, a Re-enactor might want it?

A helmet collector? Probably not.

You never know until you put it up for sale......

To someone it may hold value.

I presume the target market for this and the repro 101st helmet are people like my late friend.

They don't particularly care about original but are attracted to restorations/reproductions that look nice and display well.

agreed,  I am not mainly a helmet collector, but I do understand that point of view. but at the same time I do see the value to a reenactor as your not ruining original parts. To me it seems like a gray area. Hope you can get your stuff sold M1garandy, good luck thanks for the imformation and clarification Rooster.

I would ask $100 and see what happens. He needs to list it on FB Market Place or the Great War FB pages.  A completely new one from New Made 1917 Helmets PFLC is $212, but the guy can’t make stuff for free.
