Martynmoose Posted September 20, 2024 #1 Posted September 20, 2024 Hi can anyone give an approximate date of use for this cap and is this an official type please? Thank you
Father V Posted September 21, 2024 #2 Posted September 21, 2024 Sometimes Wikipedia is a useful source. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/USCGC_Dallas_(WHEC-716)
Martynmoose Posted September 21, 2024 Author #3 Posted September 21, 2024 Thank you that's an interesting article. I'm trying to find if this type was actually worn on the ships as most seem to state USCGC on them or if it is slightly later? Thanks again
Father V Posted September 22, 2024 #4 Posted September 22, 2024 As I understand it, none of these caps are official uniform and are privately ordered. As such they aren’t held to any particular wording or standard in particular, though they appear to follow some sort of customary usage in that many US maritime ball caps have a similar appearance.
Martynmoose Posted September 22, 2024 Author #5 Posted September 22, 2024 Many thanks for your help and information. All the best

Thats depends on commands usually. I have seen many photos and it even still happens today that you can wear a unit "ball cap" either on the ship or at the unit it represent. We weren't technically "allowed" to wear them off unit but everyone did. It was a pride thing for our unit. Also, let everyone know what unit you were at.
Martynmoose Posted November 19, 2024 Author #7 Posted November 19, 2024 Thank you that's interesting to know. I'm still trying to get more USCG caps but they are difficult to get in the UK

Older ones such as the one on the OP, much more difficult
Martynmoose Posted November 21, 2024 Author #9 Posted November 21, 2024 Thank you. Will have to look harder. All the best
