Katsup Posted September 20, 2024 #1 Posted September 20, 2024 Hey! I got this nice SPH-4, it fits me nicely but its missing the entire earcup assembly and the cord from the mic is cut on the inside! I love this helmet but it also has a large and very noticeable crack on the front right. Can I get some help finding a whole new set of earcup assemblies? I am also considering fixing the crack with epoxy and then repainting and retaping it but I am not sure. Ideally I want to keep it as it is but with a new earcup assembly and then I can hopefully maybe find a new one for my impression kit. Any help is appreciated, thanks!
AMT500E Posted September 20, 2024 #2 Posted September 20, 2024 I cannot see the crack you reference, but... That repair must be either polyester or epoxy "fiberglass" cloth and resin layup from the inside. Exterior of the crack (the seam ) can then be filled with a variety of automotive fillers and sanded smooth. I say "either" because at this point, the helmet would never pass any inspection regardless. If you aren't familiar with use of fiberglass material (and prep for application), have someone who is do the work. Use of anything else will never provide any structural integrity and will most likely break again from any hard contact. Obviously, the helmet is rendered to display only status with that degree of damage, but if you are repairing that nice looking artifact, it should be done somewhat faithfully to aviation standards and practices. Hope this helps with the final decision.

Same with the foam that goes inside. I'll have to dig around but I have a SPH-4 AIC that is missing the drop cord part but has everything else to hook up the speakers. Thank god for helmet parts lot auctions.
Katsup Posted September 26, 2024 Author #7 Posted September 26, 2024 Cool, I did not know that. Also what is the AIC?
RWW Posted September 27, 2024 #8 Posted September 27, 2024 AIC stands for Audio Intercommunications System
