Marine Corps Chest China Marine

I recently acquired this chest, which has marked uniforms, personal notes in the pockets and personal Items. All the uniforms are marked

 

on the top it has a list of places deployed to:  Panama, Hawaii, Guam, Manilla, and China. 
 

There is a medical chit rom the USS Henderson. 
 

i looked him up and he served in the 1930’s.

I got lucky on this one. I got for 70 dollars and it was great going through it and discovering things. There were hand written notes, caugh drops, and matches in the pockets. It was like he just through his stuff in there and it was forgotten about.

Very Wow. A China marine trunk group. Some great stuff coming out. I have noticed both here in the States and in the UK, some very historic militaria is coming out of the woodwork. Can't say if it is the state of the economy or just younger generations just don't want to be bothered by Grand Pa's war stuff.

Thanks. The only thing that is perplexing is that white helmet. I’m thinking it has something to do with ship duty.

I agree. I noticed an uptick. It always amazes me that things like this ends up on the market. I guess his family didn’t find it valuable and sold it. I enjoy researching and preserving their memory.

After reading the chit from the USS Henderson, it reminded me of the old adage, "Give them two aspirin and mark them 'Return to duty'" which is exactly what happened here.

Outstanding!!  A time capsule.  Love the uniform items, and about wet my pants over that field hat.  Congratulations on that find!!

I never saw a helmet like that. Everything in the locker is marked with his name, but maybe this got thrown in there. I’m still researching his history, so maybe he served later. It was really cool to find things in his pockets.  There was also a PX bag full of Corporal chevrons.

Weren’t there construction and shipyard worker helmets that looked like that too?
