ferris055 Posted September 18, 2024 #1 Posted September 18, 2024 I recently acquired this chest, which has marked uniforms, personal notes in the pockets and personal Items. All the uniforms are marked on the top it has a list of places deployed to: Panama, Hawaii, Guam, Manilla, and China. There is a medical chit rom the USS Henderson. i looked him up and he served in the 1930’s.
ferris055 Posted September 18, 2024 Author #3 Posted September 18, 2024 I got lucky on this one. I got for 70 dollars and it was great going through it and discovering things. There were hand written notes, caugh drops, and matches in the pockets. It was like he just through his stuff in there and it was forgotten about.
warguy Posted September 18, 2024 #4 Posted September 18, 2024 Wow, that is not something you see everyday. Congrats!
ludwigh1980 Posted September 18, 2024 #5 Posted September 18, 2024 Very Wow. A China marine trunk group. Some great stuff coming out. I have noticed both here in the States and in the UK, some very historic militaria is coming out of the woodwork. Can't say if it is the state of the economy or just younger generations just don't want to be bothered by Grand Pa's war stuff.

ferris055 Posted September 18, 2024 Author #7 Posted September 18, 2024 I agree. I noticed an uptick. It always amazes me that things like this ends up on the market. I guess his family didn’t find it valuable and sold it. I enjoy researching and preserving their memory.
Allan H. Posted September 18, 2024 #8 Posted September 18, 2024 After reading the chit from the USS Henderson, it reminded me of the old adage, "Give them two aspirin and mark them 'Return to duty'" which is exactly what happened here. It is a great trunk group. Congratulations! Allan
ShibaLegend Posted September 18, 2024 #9 Posted September 18, 2024 What is this helmet looking item in the trunk? Very nice group.
katieony Posted September 18, 2024 #10 Posted September 18, 2024 Really nice, original group...congratulations!

Everything in the locker is marked with his name, but maybe this got thrown in there. I’m still researching his history, so maybe he served later. It was really cool to find things in his pockets. There was also a PX bag full of Corporal chevrons.
mikie Posted September 19, 2024 #15 Posted September 19, 2024 Weren’t there construction and shipyard worker helmets that looked like that too? mikie
