The chinstrap / liner look pretty good too. Nice helmet!

Yes the liner and chinstrap are complete and not fragile.

Well my buddy found a small notebook with some writing and photos of this Marine.

His name is on the first page.

As soon as I get home I will post it.

I think this photo was taken in Michigan.

Maybe before he shipped out.

The book is about the size of an index card with a name and address on the cover and a fairly large name on the inside of the cover.

The real name of owner of this helmet.

Cecil Smalley was assigned to the 76th Company 1st Bn 6th Marines.  Enlisted April 28, 1918.  He joined the 76th Co. October 16, 1918 after the brigade had come off the line at Blanc Mont where they suffered horrible casualties.  He participated in the Meuse Argonne battle.  Absolutely fantastic helmet.  I tried to PM you with more info but it said you cannot accept messages.  Semper Fi

When my friend and I talked about this I mentioned how important any paperwork, photos, etc were.

He translated this to the family and the notebook showed up.

The family has informed him that they found some other things so I might have something next Sunday.

Holy smokes this is absolutely astounding, one of the best marine groupings I’ve seen in a long time! You have an amazing friend to have saved this for you! Where about in Michigan did this show up at?

Thank you for your interest.

This was found in Royal Oak 3 miles north of the Detroit city line.
