Adubbs81 Posted September 3 Share #1 Posted September 3 Seems to have the exact same grip as the OL 1942 bayonet that came with it. But can't see any markings on this one....is it real? Is it a knife? Thank you, I'm a total newbie.
doyler Posted September 3 Share #2 Posted September 3 Bayonet modified into a fighting knife. Markings all ground off in the process.

Are you able to identify the type of Bayonet? Since the grip is the exact same, do you think it's also an OL 1942, or was the same grip used for different years and manufacturers? Was this a common thing for soldiers to do, or do you think it was modified by someone later (I realize you can't say for sure (probably), just wondering your best guesses since I'm so new to this. Thanks again!
thorin6 Posted September 5 Share #4 Posted September 5 Take the grips off, look at the bottom side of the guard. Should be an identifying mark there. If not, Wilde Tool marked theirs on the top side of the guard, which may be ground off, so it could be a WT.

Thanks again! No, not a common thing. Most likely a scrapped broken blade salvaged into a handy but heavy KBar style knife by someone with some talent. I like it for what it is. Can you measure the blade length….be interesting to see if it would fit a leather Mk2 scabbard.

I will give that a try if I think I can do it without messing it up. On 9/5/2024 at 4:38 AM, Rhscott said: No, not a common thing.
