Chas100 Posted September 2, 2024 #1 Posted September 2, 2024 I purchased this helmet a few years ago from a forum member. I collect a lot of WW2 and WW1 firearms, field gear and bayonets but never really went down the helmet rabbit hole. Thank you to the enablers very much lol. It’s been so long ago since I purchased this one I don’t remember many details about it. Any help would be greatly appreciated and if more pics are needed I can get them.
patchtrader864 Posted September 2, 2024 #2 Posted September 2, 2024 Looks good to me Z is the maker of the helmet .
aef1917 Posted September 3, 2024 #3 Posted September 3, 2024 Z is the steel supplier code, and C is the manufacturer code.
Chas100 Posted September 3, 2024 Author #4 Posted September 3, 2024 Thank you for the information ! Going by what I’ve been able to find it’s a 1917A1 helmet. Is this correct ? Also are the insides correct and does it look like it’s original paint or has it been repainted at some time ? Thank you again for the response !!!

The A1versions had fabric chinstraps and leather/aluminum adjustable liners. A1 helmets were made either all new or rebuilt WW1 shells. Yours is in original unaltered condition.
manayunkman Posted September 3, 2024 #6 Posted September 3, 2024 A very nice example especially with complete liner and chinstrap.
Chas100 Posted September 3, 2024 Author #7 Posted September 3, 2024 Thank you for the quick response ! That’s awesome ! I was thinking about giving it a careful cleaning with just some water but a little reluctant as some of the information I’ve been reading is a little conflicting on doing so. I also can’t find the thread from when I purchased it from a member that was downsizing his collection. It was quite a few years ago and I can’t find the thread from then. I’ve kept it bubble wrap and all through the years in a controlled temp/humidity area and never did anything with it. I’ve collected mostly WW2 items over the years and not a whole lot of WW1 items but I love the history of especially WW1 items. I apologize for the questions that may seem obvious to some but I’ve recently retired and going through my collections of items that I have purchased over the years that I haven’t spent much time researching.
CAC1901 Posted September 3, 2024 #8 Posted September 3, 2024 It doesn't need cleaning. Blow dust out / off maybe but nothing beyond that.
