45govt Posted September 1 Share #1 Posted September 1 Hello Here is a recent acquisition, it is an early Mills belt with the yellow selvedges but has a leather tongue and buckle sewed on. I am speculating that it may/could?? have been done by a post saddler, again just speculation on my part as the leather has age. If anyone has seen such a modification please let me know, I know there are many different mods that were done.
Dragoon Posted September 1 Share #2 Posted September 1 Lovely belt, in answer to your question I have seen/know of two other identical examples. Does your have 50 loops and no eyelets? Kurt.

Dragoon Posted September 1 Share #4 Posted September 1 Hi Don, unfortunately no information regarding the history of the belt, the two I have seen one of which in person, the first was sold in auction by Cowan's back in 2010 (it was a superb auction with a great collection of Cavalry items), the second was offered for sale by Advance Guard Militaria I am guessing 2016, if you are a member you can search their records. I will message you some pics. Kurt

The leather tongue and buckle could indeed be a later addition, possibly by a post saddler. It’s always intriguing to see such unique modifications. Hopefully, someone with more experience can shed light on similar cases. Thanks for sharing! I was overwhelmed with multiple assignments, so I decided to use academized.com/order-research-paper to handle one of my research papers. The process was easy, and the paper they provided was excellent. It was well-researched and organized. If you’re a student looking for reliable help with your research papers, I highly recommend this service. It saved me a lot of time, and I was able to focus on my other assignments without any stress. How old it is?
45govt Posted September 24 Author Share #6 Posted September 24 Hello JoephWhite The belt dates to early 80's I do not know when the leather buckle and tongue were added. These particular belts were all made by, at first, the Gilbert Loom company on looms designed by Capt. Anson Mills, Mills eventually, after the contract with Gilbert expired bought 10 of the looms and continued the manufacture for the Army. The stamped US belt plates, Mills design, were contracted to Winchester, the cast plates were made at the arsenal and designed by various officers at the ordnance department. The Colored edges or selvages were authorized by Sherman Dec. 7th 1880. Gilbert had trouble with finding the right colors so were probably phased out fairly quickly as there are so few seen.
