milihfra Posted August 27 Share #1 Posted August 27 Hello all, Came across this patch today online. Since I could not find much else to compare it to I am curious to hear what others think. I was told that the originals of these printed patches do not have a lot of ink "bleeding" on the back. Is this true or how else could you tell? Thanks! Tonomachi Posted September 1 Share #2 Posted September 1 These South Vietnamese made silk screen patches have been copied and someone tried to explain how to tell the real ones from the copies once which went right over my head. Supposedly if I am remembering right if you take the silk screen patch and hold it up to the light and place your hand or fingers behind it you shouldn't be able to see anything through the colored portion of the patch. If you see your fingers or hand it is a copy. Maybe someone in the know will comment on this. Anyway I've attached a photo of a silk screen copy of this patch (Photo 1) and they sort of look identical to the patch you are interested in bidding on. I've also attached photos of two real ones (Photos 2 thru 5) which also look like your patch so go figure. By the way this is their harbor defense or UDT patch of a nonairborne combat swimmer qualification as there are variations with what look like wings under the anchor indicating an additional airborne qualification. Tonomachi Posted September 1 Share #3 Posted September 1 I just found an explanation about how one goes about determining if you have a real SVN made printed patch on the sister World Military Forum (see link). https://www.worldmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/322308-printed-insignia-question/#comment-2560971

milihfra Posted September 3 Author Share #5 Posted September 3 Thank you all for the assistance with this but also for identifying this patch specifically, not my area so I'm always happy to learn!
