INIMICUS Posted August 24 Share #1 Posted August 24 ghostarmy.org:roster:Taber-de-Polo.webloc Interesting that this "Ghost Army" Lt. didn't deploy but rcvd. the SS-- I guess for the 'Combat Conditions' mentioned in the separation paper? And, the SS itself has a crimp brooch, but the planchet to my non-expert eyes looks wartime; but Is it, and just the ribbon replaced? The BS has wartime brooch, and the ribbons all are are pre-45 I believe. Anyhow, seems not many officers served in this unit or related ones -- whose existence the Net says was classified 'till 1996! Marshallj Posted August 27 Share #5 Posted August 27 The Ghost Army used inflatable tanks, sound effects, radio trickery and imagination to fool the Germans on the battlefields of Europe. The unsung heroes of the 23rd Headquarters Special Troops and the 3133rd Signal Company Special carried out 25 battlefield deceptions in France, Luxembourg, Belgium, Germany and Italy. They saved thousands of lives and helped win the war, but their efforts were kept secret for fifty years and were only recently officially recognized with the award of a Congressional Gold Medal. The Ghost Army did not spend the war in England. And the term “deploy” is a modern term, not WW2.

manayunkman Posted August 27 Share #7 Posted August 27 The crimp SS must be a post war replacement or collector replacement, no way to tell. Its not the one they were issued. Where did this group come from?
INIMICUS Posted August 27 Author Share #8 Posted August 27 From family. Does the planchet look wartime? I'm pretty sure it is.
