milihfra Posted August 15 Share #1 Posted August 15 Hello all, I recently acquired this SEAL Team Five patch and wondered if some of the more knowledgeable forum members could help me as I have found limited information thus far. Firstly, is this a patch that the team would have used? I am guessing this was made in the Philippines like some other SEAL patches but the construction style seems different. Secondly, what era is this from? The one other example I could find stated 1970s-80s but SEAL Team Five was not formed until 1983. Finally, are there other "real" Seal Team Five patches out there? There seem to be plenty of Team 5 patches online but I assume most if not all of those are repros/ copies, I figured it would be cool to see other team patches that are a little more detailed and better looking than this one. Thank you all in advance for your help!

Tonomachi Posted August 15 Share #4 Posted August 15 I am pretty sure that this patch and a number of other similarly embroidered Seal Team patches were produced in Subic Bay post war for an advanced UDT, Seal Team, knife and bayonet collector/dealer who is now deceased but had contacts within the Seal Team community in the 1980s. I purchased this patch and others on his table at an insignia show in the early 1980s. This patch and others from the same supplier are smaller and of a lower quality than the normal team patches and I believe to be reproductions. I doubt it they were ever worn by team members. However this person also supplied a couple of the Seal Teams with Asian made patches which were of a higher quality than what was available at their team stores. He was smart enough to either buy out or trade for their remaining stock of genuine team patches.

Seems even if it is for sure a repro it at least has slightly more of a connection to real Seals than the other patches do. In any case, I will also go ahead and share the other photo I managed to find from Lee Jackson Militaria.
