John Sr. Posted August 8, 2024 #1 Posted August 8, 2024 I’m trying to figure out if this knife is a WW2 military issue knife or a civilian model. I have read that at the beginning of the war the US was issuing knives without designations on them due to the shortage of knives. This knife is very similar to the MK1 and is exactly like other knives from Boker USA EXCEPT missing the the USN stamp on the tang. I can only find one other knife exactly like this one on the internet and it is being sold as a WW2 military knife. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have asked this question in other online groups, but haven’t gotten much to go on. One guy did give a fairly thorough answer saying basically at that time & without the USN mark there’s no way to know for sure.
sactroop Posted August 18, 2024 #2 Posted August 18, 2024 John Sr. nice knife and good questions. I've been lurking around your post hoping someone comes by with some good answers. I've always been looking for more information about the Mk1's. Seems like the one thing that's hard to find when it comes to them is good documentation. We've got a few people here that are very good at digging up facts, I'll keep my fingers crossed.
SKIPH Posted August 18, 2024 #3 Posted August 18, 2024 John Sr.- According to Bill Walter's book on WW2 US Knives, Boker did produce MK1s without the USN stamp. The sheath is not correct for Boker MK1s. SKIP

I appreciate the reply. I am with you, I like these MK 1’s but info is limited that I can find.

SKIPH Posted August 19, 2024 #6 Posted August 19, 2024 The books are pricey, but well worth the money. SKIP
