ChrisNZ Posted August 7, 2024 #1 Posted August 7, 2024 I purchased this a few months ago from a local auction site here in New Zealand, I believe its a Quartermasters Field Safe made by The Mosler Safe Company, google brings up a few older version, almost all have exposed locking mechanisms, where as this one is covered, I suspect this one is either WW2 or later but I've not come up with to much in my search for info, does anyone know what Technical Manual might have info? I would like to restore it and get a key made so I can use it as a safe, any information is appreciated.
GWS Posted August 8, 2024 #3 Posted August 8, 2024 I had one identical to your's years back. It had either been faithfully restored or was in original condition, I'm not sure. The exterior was dull black and the interior was off white. Made by The Mosler Safe Co. Hamilton Ohio. Mine was painted in gold letters Ouartermaster Corps, USA. I've looked for any pictures of it and can't find one! The key was fairly thin flat steel marked Mosler. I sold it at the OVMS SOS about 2016. Sorry I can't give you any more help on this. Steve
Rhscott Posted August 14, 2024 #4 Posted August 14, 2024 You have absolutely no idea how many locked safes were brought out of Iraq in 2011 during the drawdown and had to be drilled, cut or pried open to check for contents. All shapes and sizes, new and old but had been pushed up from 2003-2011 and had to come back. All kinds of stuff in them from nothing to guns to porn to TS docs and cash..lots of cash..US cash. Imagine an area like a football field full of safes and you get the idea. Sold for scrap after busting into them. Our tax$$ at work.
