dschneck Posted August 4, 2024 #1 Posted August 4, 2024 I need help identifying a couple of things mentioned in my father's B-24 flight log (329th Bomb Squadron, 93rd Bomb Group, Hardwick): In a list of flight/mission dates, there is a note on some entries that says something like one of these: 0100 I, 0300 N, 0100 IA or 0115 E. I think these are times but I don't know what the letters stand for. Each entry lists the date, the type of flight and the TO time. In the combat mission detail, most missions have something written off to the side (location varies from page to page). That "code" is 032 X, 086 N, 095 P, 170 R, 188 V, 601A, 634 T or 682 O. Some of the codes are repeated on multiple missions. Any help is greatly appreciated.
P-59A Posted August 7, 2024 #2 Posted August 7, 2024 You have a head scratcher thier. My first thought was map or radio co-ordinates. I looked up radio navigation, and they used A,N to fly the beam, so that rules out radio navigation. Do you remember the old Thomas Guide map books? They had a number/letter grid system on the pages. That is only a thought. I can't wait for the person who knows what this is to chime in.
dschneck Posted August 14, 2024 Author #3 Posted August 14, 2024 I'll keep you posted if I ever find the answer. Navigation was a good thought, except that some of the entries are repeated several times. Thanks.
